Introduction

Welcome to the Scale Model Project, a hands-on, interdisciplinary learning experience designed for Workplace Mathematics 11 students. This project integrates mathematical concepts with real-world applications, allowing students to explore 3D objects, scale drawings, and scale model construction .

The three part project includes research, drafting, and building phases:

  1. Research structures to gather dimensions and design features.
  2. Draft grid paper drawings using scaled measurements.
  3. Construct physical scale models of their chosen structures.

This project strengthens students’ mathematical skills and encourages creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving. By engaging with traditional indigenous structures, students connect mathematics to cultural and historical contexts. It also provides an opportunity for students to gain practical experience drafting scale structures.
