Grade: Workplace Mathematics 11
Unit Topic: 3D Objects
Lesson Topics:
- Creating and interpreting perspective diagrams
- Drawing and constructing 3D objects
Introduction
Welcome to the Scale Model Project, a hands-on, interdisciplinary learning experience designed for Workplace Mathematics 11 students. This project integrates mathematical concepts with real-world applications, allowing students to explore 3D objects, scale drawings, and scale model construction .
The three part project includes research, drafting, and building phases:
- Research structures to gather dimensions and design features.
- Draft grid paper drawings using scaled measurements.
- Construct physical scale models of their chosen structures.
This project strengthens students’ mathematical skills and encourages creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving. By engaging with traditional indigenous structures, students connect mathematics to cultural and historical contexts. It also provides an opportunity for students to gain practical experience drafting scale structures.
